Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic safe?

Yes. While no healthcare activity is completely risk-free chiropractic is certainly one of the safest modalities of treatment for back and neck conditions.

Are chiropractors well qualified?

All genuine chiropractors have earned a masters degree in chiropractic at a recognized university and are members of a professional association. We take part in continuing education and are fully insured. However in Belgium, the word chiropractic is not protected by law, this means that someone could claim to be a chiropractor without qualification. Before booking an appointment it is always good to check that any medical practitioner is a registered member of a professional organisation. A warning sign is if someone claims to be both chiropractor and osteopath, or both chiropractor and physiotherapist. This is prohibited by both all professional associations. Another warning sign is if there is not a clear insurance reimbursement.

What's the difference between a chiropractor and a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists have a wider scope of education and practice than chiropractors. Chiropractors are more specialised and will have a greater number of hours of education and patient experience dedicated to treatment of back and neck conditions, especially regarding manual joint adjustments. You will find that in fact some physiotherapists do not treat neck and back conditions at all.

This is a tricky question

Do I need a doctor's prescription?

Why are some doctor's advising against chiropractors?

Apple recommend iphones, Google recommend android. they are part of the same system. Since they have confidence in the system they are a part of then of course they would recommend clients remain within that system. Similarly it is no surprise that a general practitioner recommends other professionals who are also working within the same system, and often within the same building, as themselves. Since chiropractic is not part of the mainstream medical system, it often gets sidelined. However the doctors who know the chiropractors personally have no problem referring patients to us.

How many visits would I need?

It depends on many factors but consider these two things:

1. Your condition: If you are a young person who has a recent injury then perhaps you are better after just one treatment. The older the patient and the older the injury then it can take much longer. A forty year old with a ten year history of pain may possibly require several visits over several weeks in order to make first steps towards recovery.

2. Your goals: Some patients simply want to feel a little less pain and discomfort. Perhaps they just want their headaches to be more tolerable. Other patients have jobs that are very physically demanding or they are training for a marathon or other sporting events. Someone who spends there weekend at the thermes will have a different requirement than someone who is dancing salsa until the early hours each night.

As well as taking a full history of your presenting complaint we also want to know about your lifestyle and what your expectations are. That way we can work together to get you to where you want to be.
